About Heather
Heather Beery is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based out of Bloomington, Indiana, providing mental health counseling to people throughout the state.
Treatment Approach
Compassion, collaboration, and honesty are the foundations of my practice. My work is largely focused on working with mid to late life adults who have experienced trauma and adverse childhood experiences. Traumatic events and early childhood attachment wounds impact our lives psychologically, emotionally, and physically and often lead to chronic anxiety, depression, dissociation, substance use, and other life challenges. I am intrigued by fields such as epigenetics (our ability to alter our gene expression through our environment and behaviors) as well as somatic treatment modalities that address trauma - as it exists not only in the mind, but also in the body. I am also keenly aware of the personal impact of systemic oppression and work to support people who are in marginalized groups while also continuing my own education.
On a personal note, I enjoy reading, kayaking, camping, hiking, traveling, deep diving into a new TV series, and learning about most anything. Because there is SO much to learn!
